Everything I made & found this month!
Books, tv shows, crafts and everything else that's been inspiring me.
Please standby while I get the schedule for this substack right… Ideally, I would publish this monthly favourites post at the end of every month, but given I didn’t do one for the end of February (can I please claim Cyclone even though it wasn’t on the horizon yet?!), here is it, a timely three weeks late. But let the record show that I have included some more recent items in here that aren’t technically February updates! I’m therefore not sure what this makes it but enjoy!
Before I get started, the olive overalls from Collective Gen are still on sale. They’re so good—super comfy, great fit, and the kind of thing you just live in.
Made:
Introducing Ready Steady Make! I need to come clean with you, I’m addicted to hoarding craft supplies and things I ‘think’ I might need, and as a result my craft room is overflowing - it’s kinda insane. In an effort to try to organise and declutter this space, I decided to start a series called Ready Steady Make! My team chose one mystery item, and I get 30 minutes to give it a complete makeover. I shared the first one a few days ago, you can watch it here!

I also made shoe storage! Last year I wanted to make more timber projects from scratch, and I still very much feel this way, so last week I built a shoe rack for my Merry People boots! I love when making something doesn’t involve any nails or screws and it fits perfectly together kinds like Ikea but more fun (and more work lol).

I have also been trying to add into my week little craft projects that don’t take too much time, money or effort to do. So, I upcycled some matches with some patterned scrapbook paper.

I also painted this old cabinet red, even though everyone told me I shouldn’t. But sometimes, you just have to trust your gut! This is British Paints in Indian Red fyi.

Oh and I finished the embroidered skirt that I started over the holidays, and it was worth every stitch. It’s the perfect mix of wearable art and slow fashion, and I’m so proud of how it turned out. If you want to try your hand at making one, the patterns are available in my course.
Found:
I discovered this amazing store and the entire space is covered with handmade tiles. A fully tiled dreamscape (yes I know in THIS economy?! etc etc etc).

The Matilda Goad booth at her latest design fair is just so perfect. I really love that something as functional as (mostly) door hardware can be elevated in this way.

Okay, these wine bottles that double as ashtrays! I mean, I don’t smoke, but I love the concept of design with a built-in second life. Everything should come with a clever, unexpected use after its first purpose is done!
Floral tiles. That’s it. That’s the post. I saw them, and now I can’t stop thinking about them. Do I need them? No. Do I want them? With my whole heart.
Reading/Watching/Listening
God of the Woods – I finished this book over the weekend of Brisban’e kind of cyclone and I have to say I really loved it! Just the perfect amount of mystery, intrigue, sadness and plot twists.
When I find an author that I love I tend to binge them, and after reading God of the Woods I was planning to read Long Bright River, especially since I saw that they have just made a TV show about it! However, I started the first few pages and found it so so sad that I had to put it down. I’m hoping to gather some strength and keep reading!
The Devil in the Family – The story of Ruby Franke is so horrific but undeniably fascinating, I read the book (The House Of My Mother) and listened to the podcast, so wasn’t expecting to learn anything new from the TV show but in the end learnt so much from it and got such a better grasp of the family and the pervasiveness of family vlogging.
Scamanda – Another podcast turned TV series that I wasn’t expecting to learn anything new from, this Cancer fraud story is also so fascinating and I think the addition of visuals make the story so much more compelling.
The Gift – A podcast all about the personal impacts of people taking commercial DNA tests, this is so so interesting.
I had the pleasure of going with a group of friends to see Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy and it was so fantastic. As a Bridget Jones addict who can’t help but still reference jokes from the first book/movie, it felt so nostalgic to see her back in the fourth movie, and the fact that it was actually good (after the flopped 2nd and 3rd ones) was the cherry on top! I know it’s principally about her romances but what struck me the most was how strong her friendship is with her three friends and how they have all grown together. Sob!
I just finished watching Adolescence and wow it was so moving and incredible, I just couldn’t get over the fact that each episode was shot in one take!
After seeing so much talk about it we watched The Substance and it was so ridiculous! Haha. I get (now) that it’s meant to be kind of absurd and noir but I feel like people have been talking about it as really speaking to today’s culture but I just found it… Bad?
Working On:
The Sewing 101 course is finally coming together! We’ve just finished making all the projects, and we’re covering everything—home decor, accessories, clothing, the works. Next week, we’re heading to Newstead Studios for a huge shoot to wrap up the whole course. It’s going to be a big one, and I can’t wait to see it all come together. If you’ve been wanting to learn to sew, this is going to be the course for you.
In a recent video I made the throwaway line that ‘anything can be a dollhouse’ and a bunch of people came back to ask me to prove it haha. So that’s what is currently occupying my brain! Brb.
That’s it for this edition of Made & Found! What’s inspiring you lately? Reply and tell me - I love hearing what’s on your radar.
Love your content! So happy to find you on Substack after I have been away from Instagram.
Your shoe rack and embroidered skirt are stunning! I will definitely be purchasing your embroidery course once I have moved house and know where everything I own is 😅
Love your creations! So inspiring. I’m ready to put more art into the world.
